The financing agreement was signed at EBID's headquarters in Lomé, Togo, by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and senior officials of the bank. The projects form part of the Bauchi State Transport Infrastructure Financing Programme, which targets key road corridors linking urban centres, rural communities and agricultural production areas.
Improving Connectivity and Economic Growth
According to EBID, the infrastructure programme is expected to reduce travel times, lower transportation costs and improve access to markets, healthcare facilities and other essential services. The upgraded transport network is also expected to strengthen agricultural value chains, facilitate trade and create employment opportunities during construction and beyond.
EBID President Dr George Agyekum Donkor said sustained investment in transport infrastructure remains essential for industrialisation and inclusive economic growth. He described the Bauchi programme as a strategic investment capable of unlocking the state's economic and agricultural potential.
Governor Bala Mohammed assured the bank that the financing would be managed with transparency, accountability and fiscal discipline to ensure the timely delivery of all approved projects.
Implications for the Housing and Real Estate Sector
For the housing sector, improved road infrastructure is expected to enhance access to emerging residential and commercial locations, making more land suitable for development and reducing infrastructure constraints on new projects.
Better transport connectivity can also increase property values along key development corridors, encourage private investment in housing and commercial real estate, and improve access to construction materials and labour. As Bauchi expands its transport network, the projects could help stimulate urban growth and support more balanced regional development.
