Dangote Moves to Strengthen Supply Chain Integrity with New Whistleblower Initiative
Dangote Industries Limited has launched a public whistleblower initiative offering a ₦500,000 cash reward to individuals who provide credible information leading to the arrest of offenders or the interception of unauthorised goods transported using the company's branded trucks. The company announced the measure in a statement issued in Lagos, urging members of the public to report any suspected misuse of Dangote-branded trucks. It said the campaign is designed to prevent unauthorised haulage activities that could expose the company to operational, legal and reputational risks.
Company Clarifies Approved Cargo
Dangote Industries clarified that trucks belonging to its subsidiaries are authorised to transport only designated products. According to the company, Dangote Cement trucks are permitted to carry cement, limestone, clinker, coal and high-grade gypsum, while Dangote Sugar Refinery vehicles may transport only sugar products.
The company added that NASCON Allied Industries trucks are approved for Dangote Salt and DanQ Seasoning products, Dangote Packaging vehicles are restricted to packaging materials, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals trucks are authorised to transport polypropylene products, and Dangote Fertiliser Limited vehicles are designated for urea fertiliser.
Illegal Haulage Will Attract Sanctions
Dangote warned that any company truck found transporting unauthorised goods or passengers would be treated as engaging in illegal haulage activities. It said both drivers and owners of unauthorised cargo risk arrest, confiscation of the goods and prosecution under applicable laws.
To support enforcement, the company has authorised law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, to arrest drivers found using Dangote trucks for unauthorised commercial haulage.
Public Asked to Support Enforcement
The company encouraged whistleblowers to provide detailed information to aid investigations, including the truck registration number, cab number, location, type of cargo, vehicle colour and photographs where available. Dedicated reporting channels have also been established across Dangote's operations to receive reports of suspected violations.
According to the company, verified information that leads to the arrest of offenders or the recovery of unauthorised goods will qualify for the ₦500,000 reward.
Implications for Construction and Housing
The initiative has broader implications for Nigeria's construction and housing sectors because Dangote Cement operates one of the country's largest logistics networks for cement and other building materials. Strengthening transport controls can help improve supply chain integrity, reduce diversion of company assets and support more reliable delivery of construction materials to infrastructure and housing projects.
For developers and contractors, efficient logistics remain critical to maintaining project timelines and managing construction costs, particularly as demand for cement and other building materials continues to grow.
Outlook
Dangote Industries said the whistleblower initiative is part of its broader commitment to transparency, accountability and operational efficiency across its logistics network. The effectiveness of the programme will depend on public participation and continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies to deter illegal haulage activities.
Conclusion
Dangote's ₦500,000 whistleblower initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening logistics security and protecting one of Nigeria's largest industrial transport networks. While aimed primarily at preventing the illegal use of company trucks, the initiative could also support more efficient movement of construction materials, reinforcing supply chain reliability for the housing, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.
