The operation was carried out by officials of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in collaboration with security agencies following intelligence reports on illegal artisanal mining activities at Ileki-Ijesa, located along the Ile-Ife–Ilesa Road in Osun State.
Two suspects arrested as authorities pursue financiers
According to the Ministry, two suspects identified as Danladi Isa and Musa Kabiru were arrested during the operation. Officials described both individuals as casual workers who are assisting investigators with information expected to lead to the arrest of those financing and coordinating the illegal mining operation.
Authorities disclosed that several other individuals fled the site when the joint enforcement team arrived, prompting investigators to shift focus towards dismantling the wider network supporting the illegal mining activities.
The Federal Government stated that targeting financiers is a critical component of its enforcement strategy, as many illegal mining operations are sustained by organised funding networks rather than individual artisanal miners alone.
Mining equipment confiscated and site sealed
During the enforcement exercise, officials dismantled operational camps established by the illegal miners and confiscated equipment used for gold extraction.

Lister generators
Mineral washing equipment
Large hose pipes
Gold-trapping carpets
Cutlasses
Other mining implements
Following the operation, authorities sealed the mining site in accordance with the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act.

Speaking during the exercise, the Southwest Zonal Mines Officer, Ajibade Ganiyu, said the operation reflects the Federal Government's continued commitment to enforcing mining regulations across the country.
