Navy inaugurates community projects in Modakeke
The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated ₦75 million Special Intervention Quick Projects in Modakeke, Osun State, including the renovation of a six classroom block at St. Stephen’s Primary School and the installation of a 10,000 litre solar powered borehole at Isale-Ope community.

The projects were implemented by the Nigerian Navy Project Department as part of the Navy’s civil-military cooperation programme and wider efforts to support community development.
Navy Delivers Education and Water Infrastructure
The intervention addresses two basic infrastructure needs identified within the Modakeke community: access to a better learning environment and reliable access to potable water.
The renovated classrooms are located at St. Stephen’s Primary School, an institution established in 1929. According to the Navy, the renovation was also intended to preserve the school ahead of its centenary celebration in 2029.
The solar-powered borehole, meanwhile, was provided to Isale-Ope after consultations with community leaders identified water scarcity as a priority.
Projects Form Part of Wider Community Intervention
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, said the projects formed part of the Navy’s civil-military cooperation and wider national development efforts.
Represented at the event by the Chief of Naval Transformation, Rear Adm. Chijoke Onyemaobi, Abbas said the interventions were designed to address basic needs in education, potable water, health and community infrastructure.
He added that such initiatives could strengthen public confidence in the military while encouraging communities to provide credible information that supports security operations.
Community Ownership Considered Important
Rear Adm. Akinola Olodude, who facilitated the projects, described the intervention as part of a broader approach to community security and development.
He urged the community, the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board and traditional authorities to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities.
The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, also called on residents to protect the renovated school and solar-powered borehole to ensure that they continue to serve the community.
Infrastructure Development Supports Local Communities
The intervention highlights the importance of basic infrastructure to the development of communities outside major urban centres.
Reliable water supply can improve public health and sanitation, while improved school facilities can create a more conducive environment for education.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Segun Oyedele, commended the Navy for the intervention and said partnerships of this nature could support sustainable community development.
For communities experiencing infrastructure deficits, targeted investments in water, education, roads, healthcare and other public facilities can improve living conditions and strengthen the foundations for broader local economic development.
