The development reflects a growing trend of community-driven infrastructure investment across Lagos, where residents increasingly collaborate to address gaps in public services and improve living conditions within residential estates and neighbourhoods.

Residents Fund Major Electricity Upgrade

Speaking at the inauguration, Eletu CDA Chairman, Marshal Ilelaboye, described the electricity project as one of the most significant achievements in the community’s history. According to him, the project was financed through contributions from residents and has substantially improved electricity supply within the estate.

He noted that the initiative enabled the community to move from Band B to Band A electricity service and transition from the Ijegun FIDA network to the Bucnor FIDA network, resulting in improved power reliability for residents.

Ilelaboye said the project demonstrates what can be achieved when residents work together towards common development goals, despite challenges associated with the community’s location near a canal and historical infrastructure deficits.

Road Project Targets Improved Connectivity

Alongside the electricity upgrade, the community also inaugurated a ₦300 million road project that will cover four major roads classified as Trunk A roads within the estate. According to community leaders, the road development is expected to improve accessibility, enhance mobility, and support economic activities within the area.

The CDA appealed to the Lagos State Government for additional support to complete other phases of the road infrastructure programme, noting that further investment would accelerate development and improve connectivity across the wider Isheri Oshu axis.

Infrastructure experts have consistently highlighted the importance of quality road networks in supporting property values, attracting investment, and improving the overall quality of life in residential communities.

Stakeholders Praise Community Collaboration

Representing the Chairman of the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mojisola Badmus described the projects as evidence of effective collaboration among residents, community leaders, and other stakeholders. She pledged continued support for initiatives that promote development and improve public infrastructure.

Similarly, pioneer Chairman of Eletu CDA, Olayiwola Abdurazak, recalled the challenges the community faced in earlier years when basic infrastructure was limited. He commended the current leadership for sustaining development efforts and building on previous achievements.

Chief Kazeem Kalejaiyi, Chairman of the Central CDA of Isheri-Ijon, Ajaye, and White Sand communities, also described the occasion as a landmark achievement and praised the commitment shown by residents and community executives.

Partnership Supports Electricity Management

The Secretary of the CDA, Lucky Ireaja, disclosed that the community has established a working relationship with the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to ensure efficient management and maintenance of the newly upgraded electricity infrastructure.

He explained that previous investments in power infrastructure laid the foundation for the latest upgrade, which is expected to improve service delivery and support future growth within the estate.

Community security officials and residents also attributed the success of the projects to strong leadership, resident participation, and a shared commitment to long-term development.

Community Development Extends Beyond Infrastructure

The inauguration ceremony also featured a free medical outreach programme sponsored by the CDA chairman. The initiative provided residents with blood pressure and blood sugar screenings as part of efforts to promote health awareness and preventive healthcare within the community.

Stakeholders noted that combining infrastructure development with social welfare initiatives contributes to creating more sustainable and liveable communities, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas such as Lagos.

Conclusion

The completion of the ₦90 million electricity project and the launch of the ₦300 million road project represent a major infrastructure milestone for Eletu Royal Estate in Isheri Oshu, Lagos. The projects highlight the growing role of community-led development in addressing infrastructure challenges, improving living standards, and enhancing property values. As residents continue to invest in critical infrastructure, the community is positioning itself for further growth and improved quality of life.
