Investment Signals Renewed Confidence in Aba
The new plant, developed by Ultimum Limited under the Kadji Group, reflects renewed private sector confidence in Aba’s economic potential. Governor Otti described the project as validation of ongoing reforms to improve the business environment and attract investors.
He noted that the investment demonstrates how improved infrastructure, security, and governance can position Aba as a competitive destination for manufacturing and industrial activity.
The promoters also indicated plans to scale total investment in the facility to $100 million, underscoring long-term commitment to operations in the state.
Strengthening Aba’s Manufacturing Ecosystem
The facility will serve as the primary production hub for Ultimum’s beverage products, including multiple variants of carbonated soft drinks targeted at both local and regional markets.
Aba has historically been recognised as a major commercial and manufacturing centre in southeastern Nigeria, with strong clusters in textiles, leather goods, and small-scale industries.
The addition of a modern production facility is expected to reinforce this ecosystem by integrating large-scale industrial operations with existing supply chains.
Job Creation and Value Chain Impact
The project is projected to generate employment opportunities across production, administration, and distribution functions. It is also expected to stimulate activity among suppliers, logistics providers, and other stakeholders within the value chain.
Industry observers note that such investments can have multiplier effects, supporting small businesses and enhancing local economic activity.
Alignment with Industrial Revitalisation Strategy
The commissioning aligns with the Abia State Government’s broader strategy to revive dormant industries and reposition Aba as a leading industrial hub.
Recent initiatives include efforts to rehabilitate legacy manufacturing assets and improve critical infrastructure such as road networks and access to industrial zones.
These measures aim to create a conducive environment for both local and foreign investors.
Outlook
The launch of the $35 million facility represents a key milestone in Abia’s industrialisation agenda. Sustained investment, infrastructure development, and policy consistency will be critical to maintaining momentum.
If effectively scaled, such projects could accelerate job creation, deepen manufacturing capacity, and reinforce Aba’s role as a major economic centre in Nigeria.
