Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has directed the immediate redesign and redevelopment of the abandoned Life Camp Recreation Park into a modern leisure and sporting facility, reinforcing the administration's commitment to expanding public green spaces and improving the quality of life in Abuja.

The directive followed the recent recognition of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for its environmental renewal efforts under the Renewed Hope Initiative's Green Nigeria Challenge, particularly the successful remodelling of the Abuja City Gate into a recreational and tourism attraction.
Modern Recreation Hub Planned
Following an inspection of the site, Wike described the current condition of the Life Camp Recreation Park as a missed opportunity and instructed the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) to begin work on a comprehensive redesign immediately.
According to the minister, the upgraded park will include modern sporting and recreational facilities where residents can exercise, relax, socialise and enjoy public open spaces comparable to those found in leading cities around the world. He emphasised that the project would be treated as an emergency to accelerate delivery.
Green Infrastructure Remains a Priority
Wike said the FCTA intends to continue investing in parks, green corridors and recreational infrastructure following the positive public response to the redevelopment of the Abuja City Gate.

The minister also disclosed plans to introduce an annual New Year fireworks celebration at the City Gate as part of efforts to strengthen Abuja's appeal as a modern capital city.
