President Tinubu Tasks Residents to Preserve New FCT Road Infrastructure

President Bola Tinubu has called on residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to take ownership of the newly completed Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road by protecting it from vandalism, encroachment and poor maintenance.

The President made the appeal during the commissioning of the road on Tuesday, where he was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. His remarks formed part of the Federal Government's broader effort to promote community participation in preserving public infrastructure delivered under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Addressing traditional rulers, youth groups, traders and farmers from the benefiting communities, Tinubu described the newly commissioned road as a shared public asset that must be protected for future generations.

He urged residents to prevent encroachment along the road corridor, keep drainage channels free of refuse and promptly report any attempts to vandalise government infrastructure.

According to the President, safeguarding completed projects is as important as constructing them, noting that sustained maintenance will ensure the road continues to serve residents, improve connectivity and stimulate local economic activities.

Road Expected to Boost Rural Connectivity

The Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road is expected to improve transportation across communities within Kwali Area Council by providing easier access for farmers, traders and commuters.

Improved road connectivity is also expected to reduce travel times, enhance the movement of agricultural produce and support economic development across the surrounding rural communities.

Tinubu encouraged residents to maximise the opportunities created by the infrastructure by expanding farming activities, strengthening local businesses and improving access to essential services.

Wike Highlights Speed of Project Delivery

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike said the road project was awarded in November 2025 and completed in less than 12 months.

He described the delivery timeline as evidence that infrastructure projects can be completed efficiently when government commitment is matched by contractor performance.

Wike commended the contractor for delivering the project on schedule and disclosed that the same construction firm would also complete the ongoing Gbazango (Arab Road) project in Kubwa, which is expected to be commissioned next month.

Community Consultation Guided Project Selection

The FCT Minister explained that the Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road emerged from consultations with host communities, following President Tinubu's directive that infrastructure projects should reflect the priorities of local residents.

According to Wike, traditional rulers in Kwali Area Council consistently identified the A2–Pai, Pai–Gomani and Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji road corridor as a critical infrastructure need, prompting the administration to include it among its priority projects.

He also praised community leaders and traditional institutions for cooperating with contractors throughout construction, noting that their support contributed significantly to the project's timely completion.

Infrastructure and Public Responsibility

Tinubu reiterated that government investment in roads must be complemented by responsible community stewardship to ensure infrastructure remains functional for decades.

The President stressed that preventing vandalism, illegal development along road corridors and poor waste disposal around drainage systems would help preserve public assets while reducing future maintenance costs.

His remarks align with the administration's broader infrastructure agenda, which places emphasis not only on delivering new projects but also on ensuring their long-term sustainability through collaboration between government and host communities.
