The Oyo State Fire Services Agency said it received a distress call at approximately 2:37 pm and deployed a firefighting team to the location. The crew brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other buildings and facilities within the factory.

No loss of life was reported. However, a separate report indicated that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the incident.

Cause of Fire Remains Under Investigation

A preliminary investigation by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency suggested that the fire might have resulted from a spontaneous reaction involving materials used at the factory.

The agency has not established a definitive cause, and the preliminary explanation should not be treated as a final investigation finding.

The firefighting team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Oyeniyi, completed the operation and returned to its station at approximately 4:37 pm.

Fire Safety Risks in Industrial and Commercial Properties

The incident highlights the importance of fire prevention and emergency preparedness in industrial facilities, where stored materials, production equipment and electrical installations can increase the potential scale of damage when fires occur.

Factories and warehouses require appropriate fire detection systems, functional extinguishers, accessible emergency exits and equipment suited to the materials stored on their premises.

Regular safety inspections and staff training are also important in helping businesses identify hazards and respond quickly when incidents occur.

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency urged business owners to provide functional firefighting equipment within their facilities and remain vigilant against potential fire hazards.

For property owners and industrial developers, the incident reinforces the need to treat fire protection as an essential part of building design, facility management and operational planning.
