The Green City Estate is being developed through a partnership between the FHA and Greenpasture Homes Limited, highlighting the growing role of public-private collaboration in housing delivery. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, FHA Managing Director Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, represented by Executive Director of Estate Services Arch. Nya-Etok Ezekiel, said the Authority has strengthened its project execution framework to ensure timely completion and avoid delays often associated with housing developments.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to housing availability within the Federal Capital Territory, where demand for quality and affordable residential accommodation continues to grow.

Mix of Housing Types Planned

According to the FHA, the estate will comprise a mix of housing options designed to meet diverse household needs. The development will include 80 two-bedroom flats, 56 three-bedroom flats, 35 three-bedroom terrace duplexes and 45 four-bedroom terrace duplexes. The housing units have been designed with a focus on functionality, security, comfort and environmental sustainability.

The Authority noted that the project aligns with contemporary housing development standards while creating opportunities for more Nigerians to access decent accommodation in a planned residential environment.

Supporting the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda

FHA officials stated that the Green City Estate aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which identifies housing delivery as a key component of economic development, job creation and social inclusion. According to the Authority, expanding access to affordable housing remains central to efforts aimed at improving living standards and stimulating growth within the construction and real estate sectors.

The project also reflects the government's broader strategy of leveraging partnerships with private developers to scale housing delivery and bridge the country's housing gap.

Public-Private Partnerships Gain Momentum

The FHA described its partnership with Greenpasture Homes Limited as evidence of the effectiveness of collaboration between government institutions and private developers. The Authority disclosed that both organisations recently launched another 200-unit housing project in Ofada, Ogun State, as part of a wider effort to accelerate residential development nationwide.

Industry stakeholders have increasingly advocated stronger public-private partnerships as a practical mechanism for mobilising investment, reducing delivery costs and increasing the pace of housing construction across Nigeria.

FHA Expands Housing Development Pipeline

Beyond the Abuja project, the FHA revealed that it has secured land in 28 states for future housing developments and has commenced procurement and construction activities in several locations, including Umuahia, Uyo and Kaduna. The Authority's broader housing strategy focuses on expanding its development footprint and increasing the number of affordable homes available to Nigerians.

The agency has repeatedly emphasised that large-scale housing construction remains a priority in 2026 as it seeks to translate policy commitments into completed housing projects.

Industry Stakeholders Welcome Development

President and Chairman of Council of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), HRM Oba Akintoye Adeoye, described the FHA Green City Estate as a significant milestone for the housing sector. He noted that partnerships between government agencies and private developers remain essential to addressing housing shortages and improving access to affordable homes.

Adeoye also reaffirmed REDAN's support for policies that encourage housing finance, real estate investment and sustainable housing delivery across the country.

Implications for the Housing Market

The commencement of the Green City Estate project comes at a time when stakeholders are seeking practical solutions to Nigeria's housing deficit, which continues to place pressure on housing affordability and availability.

For investors, developers and policymakers, the project signals continued momentum in residential development and highlights the importance of collaborative financing and delivery models. The estate is also expected to generate construction-related employment opportunities while contributing to urban expansion along the Wasa development corridor in Abuja.

Conclusion

The launch of the 213-unit FHA Green City Estate represents another step in efforts to expand housing supply and improve access to homeownership in Nigeria. Through its partnership with Greenpasture Homes Limited, the Federal Housing Authority is advancing its affordable housing agenda while demonstrating the role of public-private collaboration in addressing housing challenges. As construction progresses, stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether the project meets its delivery timeline and contributes meaningfully to reducing housing shortages in the Federal Capital Territory.
