The Lagos State Government has debunked a viral video claiming that people are currently living under the Oja Oba Bridge, saying the footage was recorded about two years ago and does not reflect the present condition of the location.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, issued the clarification after the video circulated on social media, reportedly generating concerns about alleged residential and commercial activities beneath the public infrastructure.
Wahab said the government had confirmed that the footage was outdated and urged media platforms, bloggers and social-media users to verify the age and authenticity of such material before publishing or sharing it.
Government Rejects Current Occupation Claim
According to Wahab, the video shared online suggests that people are currently residing under the Oja Oba Bridge, but the footage was actually recorded approximately two years ago.
He said the video therefore should not be used to describe the current state of the location.
The commissioner also urged members of the public to distinguish between historical footage and current developments, particularly when dealing with environmental and infrastructure issues that can change significantly following government interventions.
Oja Oba Underbridge Part of Lagos Regeneration
The clarification comes against the backdrop of ongoing regeneration and environmental improvement work across Lagos Island and other parts of the state.
Earlier this year, Wahab inspected the Adeniji-Adele Underbridge by Oja Oba as part of the Lagos Island regeneration and beautification programme. The government said the project was intended to improve drainage, reduce flood risks and improve living conditions around the area.
The commissioner had also said the Oja Oba Underbridge was among locations targeted for transformation as part of the wider regeneration programme.
