Federal Housing Ministry Endorses Nationwide Homeownership Awareness Campaign
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has endorsed the Renewed Hope National Homeownership and Housing Development Campaign, a citizen-focused initiative designed to deepen public participation in ongoing housing sector reforms. The approval follows a strategic meeting in Abuja between senior Ministry officials and the Know This Nigeria Network (KTNN), the organization leading the campaign.
According to a statement issued by Badamasi S. Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations, the endorsement formalizes the Ministry’s collaboration with KTNN, a civic organization promoting public participation in national development. KTNN’s Project Director, Robert Ahen Chenge, led the delegation that briefed the Ministry on the objectives and structure of the campaign.
The initiative will convene six regional advisory sessions that bring together state governors, commissioners, housing agencies, legislators, private sector leaders, and civil society groups. Its goal is to improve citizen awareness of housing opportunities and strengthen alignment between federal and state-level housing reforms.
Minister Dangiwa Highlights Reform Alignment and Knowledge Gaps
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, praised KTNN for translating federal reforms into a public-facing campaign. He noted that limited awareness of available housing programmes and financing windows continues to hinder uptake across many states.
Dangiwa said the initiative reinforces key elements of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly citizen engagement, improved state-federal cooperation, and continuity in housing policy. He also highlighted the complementarity with existing programmes, including the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, the Social Housing Programme, and the Land 4Growth Reforms.
The Minister welcomed KTNN’s proposal to establish State and National Housing Reform Offices, designed to institutionalise housing knowledge and support continuity across political cycles. However, he directed that the proposal be reviewed by the Ministry’s Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department to ensure policy alignment.
Strengthening Partnerships Through Blended Finance and Technical Support
Dangiwa commended KTNN’s collaboration with development partners, including the World Bank, Shelter Afrique, IFC EDGE, and UN-Habitat. He said these engagements support the Ministry’s broader strategy of deploying blended finance to expand affordable housing delivery and reduce investment risk.
A technical review committee, including representatives from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC), and the Ministry’s Reform Coordination Department, has been mandated to work with KTNN on defining partnership modalities.
KTNN Plans Nationwide Seminars and Improved Access to Housing Information
Chenge said the nationwide campaign will tackle long-standing information gaps by conducting homeownership seminars across all thirty-six states and the FCT. KTNN will also train Homeownership Specialists to guide citizens through the mortgage process and develop digital platforms that simplify access to housing information, financing options, and eligibility requirements.
Conclusion: Expanding Pathways to Homeownership Through Shared Action
The endorsement signals the Ministry’s commitment to collaborative reform and its recognition that housing transformation depends on stronger citizen participation. As the campaign begins its rollout, stakeholders expect improved awareness, greater uptake of federal housing initiatives, and a more inclusive pathway to homeownership for Nigerians across regions.
