Turnbull-Parkview junction upgrade begins in Ikoyi
The Lagos State Government will commence a six-month improvement project at the Turnbull-Parkview intersections along Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, from September 14, 2026, as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve movement in the area.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the planned intervention during a stakeholders' engagement meeting at Banana Island Estate, Ikoyi. He said the government would work with residents and other stakeholders to minimise disruption during the construction period.
Lagos Targets Traffic Bottlenecks
The planned works will focus on upgrading the Turnbull-Parkview intersections, which connect to major roads within Ikoyi and experience significant congestion, particularly during peak periods.
According to Bolaji Bada, Director of Transport Engineering at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the intervention is intended to remove existing bottlenecks and improve the efficiency and flow of traffic through the junctions.
The project is expected to run for six months.
Government Plans Traffic Management During Construction
The state government said it will introduce a traffic management plan to limit the effect of construction activities on motorists and residents.
Osiyemi said construction would be carried out mainly during off-peak periods in the morning and evening to reduce disruption. The ministry will also coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that utilities, including electricity, water and fibre-optic infrastructure, are not unnecessarily affected.
The government is also considering concerns relating to properties affected by the project's right-of-way. A compensation plan has reportedly been put in place where project implementation affects or results in encroachment on private property.
Residents Seek Continued Engagement
Stakeholders in Parkview and Banana Island have welcomed the planned intervention while calling for continued engagement throughout the construction period.
Ronke Shokefun, Chairman of Parkview Estate, highlighted concerns about congestion in the area and urged the government to keep residents and other stakeholders informed.
Shonaiki Abidemi, Chairman of Banana Island Estate, also welcomed the planned works and called on residents to cooperate with the government during implementation.
Infrastructure Could Support Ikoyi Property Market
Improved road connectivity can have wider implications for residential and commercial property markets in established districts such as Ikoyi.
For residents, developers and investors, easier movement between residential estates and surrounding business districts can improve accessibility and potentially strengthen the attractiveness of well-connected locations.
However, the effect on property values should not be assumed to be immediate or automatic. The longer-term benefit will depend on the quality of the completed works, sustained traffic management and complementary investment in roads, drainage, utilities and public transport.
The project also demonstrates the importance of transport infrastructure in supporting established urban communities where high population and development intensity place increasing pressure on existing road networks.

The Turnbull-Parkview improvement project is scheduled to begin on September 14 and continue for six months.
If delivered as planned, the intervention could improve traffic flow around Gerrard Road and surrounding communities while strengthening access to important residential and commercial areas in Ikoyi.
