Enugu Air
Enugu Air has secured regulatory approval to commence flights between Lagos and London Gatwick in December 2026, marking another step in the state-owned airline’s expansion into international aviation. The airline will operate the service through a strategic partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation (OBA), which has been appointed as the designated operator for the route.

The airline announced that bookings for the service had opened ahead of its planned launch. The new route will provide another direct air travel option between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, a major international market for Nigerian business travellers, tourists, students and members of the diaspora.
The approval comes as Enugu Air expands beyond its domestic operations and builds its international network. However, the Lagos–London service will operate from Lagos rather than Enugu, with the airline using the partnership with Omni-Blu to facilitate the route.
Omni-Blu Aviation to Operate Lagos-London Service
Under the partnership arrangement, Omni-Blu Aviation will operate the Lagos–London Gatwick flights on behalf of Enugu Air.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority issued Foreign Aircraft Operating Permit FOP-2026-106430-001 to Omni-Blu Aviation on 4 November 2026. The authorisation covers scheduled services between Lagos and London Gatwick under the UK–Nigeria air transport agreement.
Details reported by New Telegraph indicate that the permit authorises four weekly flight frequencies, with operations scheduled to begin on 1 December 2026. The authorisation runs until 27 March 2027.
The permit also specifies the aircraft arrangements for the service. It identifies aircraft registration CS-TGD, operated under a wet-lease agreement with EuroAtlantic Airways Transportes Aéreos, S.A. A wet lease allows an airline to use another operator's aircraft together with its crew, maintenance and insurance arrangements.
The arrangement means Omni-Blu will provide the operating capacity for the service while Enugu Air participates through its strategic partnership.
Enugu Air Expands Its International Operations
The Lagos–London approval follows Enugu Air's entry into international operations in September 2026, when the airline operated its maiden international flight to Douala, Cameroon, on 23 September.
The airline began operations in July 2025 with an initial fleet of three Embraer aircraft, comprising the E170 and E190 series. It received its Air Operator Certificate from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority in March 2026, allowing it to commence scheduled flight operations.
The airline forms part of the Enugu State Government's wider transport and economic development strategy. Governor Peter Mbah's administration has positioned aviation as an important part of its ambition to improve connectivity, attract investment and strengthen the state's commercial profile.
The Lagos–London service represents a further step in that expansion, although the airline's international growth will depend on its ability to sustain operations, establish reliable partnerships and compete in an established aviation market.
New Competition on the Nigeria–UK Route
The Lagos–London corridor is one of Nigeria's important international air travel markets, serving business, tourism, education and diaspora-related travel.
The entry of the Enugu Air–Omni-Blu partnership will add another Nigerian-linked operator to the route. Before this development, Air Peace was the only Nigerian airline operating direct scheduled flights to London.
According to New Telegraph, Omni-Blu's initial authorisation covers four weekly frequencies. This would increase the number of Nigerian-operated services available on the route and contribute to the country's use of its flight entitlements under the bilateral air services arrangement with the United Kingdom.
The development could also increase competition for passengers travelling between Lagos and London. However, its effect on fares and passenger choices will depend on the frequency, reliability, capacity and commercial terms of the service.
What the New Route Means for Business and Investment
Improved air connectivity can support business relationships, trade, tourism and investment by making international travel more accessible. For Nigerian businesses, additional direct services to the United Kingdom could provide greater flexibility when arranging meetings, managing international operations and connecting with overseas markets.
The route may also support Enugu State's ambition to attract international business and investment by expanding the airline's profile beyond domestic routes.
However, the service's commercial performance will depend on consistent operations, passenger demand and the strength of its operating partnership. The airline will also need to establish a reliable service that meets the expectations of passengers travelling on a competitive international route.
Enugu Air's approval for the Lagos–London Gatwick service marks a significant development in its international expansion. With flights scheduled to begin in December 2026, attention will now turn to the launch, operational reliability and the airline's ability to build a sustainable presence in the Nigeria–United Kingdom aviation market.
