Wike Inaugurates Karu Road Project, Promises Completion in Ten Months

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially inaugurated the 5.4-kilometre Karu dual carriageway, assuring residents that the project will be delivered within ten months. The initiative forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises extending development beyond the city centre into satellite communities.

Speaking at the ceremony in Karu, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Wike emphasised that the project is designed to transform the Karu environment and improve mobility for thousands of commuters. He pledged to oversee progress to ensure timely delivery personally and highlighted that the road will be equipped with solar-powered streetlights to enhance security and sustainability.

“This is your turn, the people of Karu. With this road, the environment will change, and life will be easier,” the Minister stated, while urging residents to safeguard the infrastructure once completed.

Recognition of Stakeholders and Contractor

The Minister acknowledged the roles of AMAC Chairman, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, and former Senator Philip Aduda in advancing Karu’s development. He also commended the contractor, Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, for its previous successful execution of the 16-kilometre Bwari dual carriageway, noting that the company must maintain work continuity despite the rainy season since mobilisation funds have already been released.

Broader Infrastructure Commitments

Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, reiterated the administration’s commitment to people-centred projects, recalling the recent launch of a water supply scheme benefiting Karu and neighbouring communities. She expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure that directly impacts residents’ daily lives.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, outlined the technical scope of work, which includes site clearance, drainage systems, culverts, walkways, asphalt surfacing, and the installation of solar streetlights. He noted that the road will connect with the rehabilitated Nyanya–Karshi corridor, improving traffic flow and strengthening socio-economic activities across the region.

Outlook

The Karu road project is expected to ease longstanding traffic challenges in Abuja’s satellite towns, particularly for residents commuting daily to the city center. If delivered within the promised timeframe, the project will mark another milestone in the government’s strategy of decentralizing development and stimulating economic growth across peri-urban areas of the FCT.
