Federal Housing Authority Launches Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Akwa Ibom, Strengthening Federal Homeownership Drive
The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has commenced construction of the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo, reinforcing the Federal Government’s strategy to expand access to affordable housing and reduce Nigeria’s longstanding supply deficit. The project was formally launched by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, alongside FHA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Oyetunde Ojo.
Federal–State Collaboration to Accelerate Delivery
The project’s implementation follows a partnership agreement between the FHA and the Akwa Ibom State Government. According to a statement issued by the FHA’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Chigelu, the state provided land at no cost and pledged continued institutional support throughout the construction phase.
Ojo commended the governor’s early commitment to the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, describing Akwa Ibom’s collaboration as a model for federal–state cooperation in the housing sector. He noted that the FHA will replicate similar developments in Kaduna, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Adamawa States, where procurement processes have already been concluded.
Advancing the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda
Ojo affirmed that the Renewed Hope Housing Programme represents President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader commitment to delivering affordable, livable communities nationwide. He highlighted the FHA’s ongoing efforts to complete and commission inherited projects, consistent with the President’s directive that public housing developments must no longer remain abandoned or stalled.
He described the Akwa Ibom estate as more than a traditional housing project, emphasizing its potential to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and strengthen inclusive development. “This is a planned community designed to improve quality of life, support small businesses, and enhance social cohesion,” he said.
State Government Expands Support for Housing Policy
Governor Eno welcomed the FHA’s choice of Uyo as one of the flagship sites for the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. He reiterated his administration’s focus on housing delivery, noting that the state had recently allocated 50 hectares of land to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for an additional federal housing initiative.
He added that Akwa Ibom is simultaneously investing in dedicated residential clusters for civil servants, including the Aviation City, Judicial City, Legislative, and Executive estates. Eno pledged full state collaboration to ensure the timely completion of the FHA project and announced that security coverage will be extended to protect the site and surrounding communities.
The Renewed Hope Housing Scheme operates through a shared implementation model: state governments provide land and basic infrastructure, while the FHA oversees construction, management, and delivery. The structure is designed to reduce project costs, accelerate timelines, and enhance transparency in housing allocation.
The initiative supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals on affordable housing, sustainable cities, and decent work, particularly as it stimulates local employment and construction-related industries.
Conclusion
The launch of the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding accessible housing for low- and middle-income households while strengthening federal–state partnerships. With multiple projects advancing across the country, the programme signals a structured, long-term approach to closing Nigeria’s housing deficit and promoting sustainable urban development.
