President Tinubu Congratulates Kano Governor Abba Yusuf on 63rd Birthday; Commends Urban Renewal Drive

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, as he marks his 63rd birthday on January 5, 2026. In a statehouse press release, the President lauded the Governor’s commitment to public service, specifically highlighting the "infrastructural changes" and educational reforms currently reshaping Kano State.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Governor Yusuf for his modesty, integrity, and humility. He noted that these qualities have been instrumental in the administration of Kano, describing the state as a "bastion of progressive politics in the North."

Recognition of Urban Renewal and Infrastructure

President Tinubu observed that Governor Yusuf’s previous experience as the Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport (2011–2015) prepared him for the large-scale projects he has initiated since taking office in 2023.

The President specifically commended the Governor’s Urban Renewal Programmes, which include:

  • Strategic Road Networks: The construction of bridges and extensive road corridors across the metropolitan area.

  • State-wide Accessibility: The ongoing construction of five-kilometer roads in each of the 44 Local Government Areas in the state.

Educational Reforms and NECO Performance

Beyond physical infrastructure, the President highlighted the impact of the "State of Emergency on Education" declared by the Yusuf administration. President Tinubu noted that this policy has led to a marked improvement in the academic performance of Kano students, particularly in the National Examinations Council (NECO) results.

“Governor Yusuf’s regime re-echoes the commitment to grassroots development and ameliorating the plight of the Talakawas,” the President remarked, drawing a parallel to the legacy of the late Mallam Aminu Kano.

A Legacy of Public Service

Governor Yusuf, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), continues to receive accolades for his focus on social justice and grassroots empowerment. President Tinubu concluded his message by wishing the Governor a long life and continued success in his transformative leadership of Kano State.
