At Real Estate Conference, Stanbic IBTC Highlights Policy Integration for Scalable Housing

Stanbic IBTC Calls for Coordinated Frameworks to Unlock Inclusive Housing Opportunities

Stanbic IBTC Bank has called for stronger policy integration and coordinated frameworks to accelerate inclusive housing development in Nigeria, emphasising that sustainable shelter solutions require more than access to finance alone. The bank’s position was outlined at the 2026 Wemabod Real Estate Outlook Conference under the theme “Unlocking Land and Infrastructure for Inclusive Housing.”

Coordinated Frameworks Beyond Financing

During discussions at the conference, Stanbic IBTC emphasised the importance of aligning policy formulation, capital mobilisation and on-ground project execution to deliver scalable housing outcomes that unlock long-term economic value and broaden access to quality shelter. The institution described this integrated approach as a “policy–capital–execution nexus” a prerequisite for inclusive asset development in the housing sector.

According to Wole Adeniyi, Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Bank, inclusive housing cannot be achieved without purposefully unlocking land resources and integrating infrastructure planning from the outset. He underscored that sustainable economic growth depends on housing solutions that are accessible to a wide range of income groups and built on clear regulatory and financing frameworks.

Collaboration as a Catalyst for Growth

Stanbic IBTC executives also highlighted that multi-stakeholder collaboration is essential for delivering viable, scalable housing models. This collaboration incorporating government agencies, development institutions, private developers, financiers and host communities aims to align housing initiatives with broader regional economic priorities.

The bank’s leadership stressed that a siloed approach to financing construction or providing mortgages is insufficient on its own. Instead, coordinated design and implementation of policy frameworks that remove barriers to land access, streamline permit processes and synchronise infrastructure development are critical to expanding housing supply efficiently.

Rethinking Urban Development Patterns

As part of the conference’s broader discourse, speakers also called for a rethinking of urban growth strategies. They argued that shifting some housing development to well-planned regional corridors supported by robust transport links and strategic land-use planning could alleviate pressure on overcrowded urban centres and stimulate economic activity in underserved areas.

The discussions drew attention to the complex interplay between policy, capital and execution in the housing ecosystem and signalled a collective push toward holistic solutions that address structural challenges inhibiting affordable housing delivery in Nigeria.

Industry Dialogue and Future Outlook

The conference provided a platform for robust dialogue among industry stakeholders, generating actionable insights on affordable housing delivery, infrastructure funding, and sustainable urban planning. Stanbic IBTC reiterated its intention to remain at the forefront of the housing transformation agenda advocating for strategic partnerships and frameworks that make inclusive housing a reality for broader segments of the population.

Stanbic IBTC’s advocacy for aligning housing policy with capital flows and execution underscores a strategic pivot toward more inclusive and effective housing development in Nigeria. By calling for coordinated frameworks and broader stakeholder participation, the bank is emphasising structural solutions that go beyond financing focusing instead on unlocking land, integrating infrastructure planning and scaling solutions that can deliver lasting housing access and economic impact.
