Nigeria Seeks $60 Million to Fund Green Energy Projects

Nigeria’s federal government is working with global funding bodies to raise about $60 million in climate finance. This money will be used to launch pilot green energy hubs across the country.

These hubs will showcase sustainable energy solutions. They will include solar power, energy storage, and smart appliances that can work in homes, schools, and local businesses. The goal is to prove that clean energy technologies can be reliable and cost-effective in Nigeria’s cities and rural areas.

Officials say the funding will help bridge the gap between pilot projects and full-scale deployment. They plan to partner with international banks, development agencies, and private investors to structure sustainable and attractive financing deals.

The hubs are expected to create green jobs, build technical skills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They will also support Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy while improving energy access in communities that often rely on diesel generators or have no power at all.

This funding push aligns with Nigeria’s climate policies, including the 2021 Climate Change Act and upcoming Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) update for 2025. The government hopes the initiative will inspire further investment in renewable energy and launch more climate action programs in the future.
