Lagos State Government Unveils Plan to Build Over 14,000 New Homes by 2026
The Lagos State Government has unveiled an ambitious plan to deliver more than 14,000 new housing units by the first quarter of 2026. This initiative aims to reduce the state's significant housing shortfall and improve access to quality homes for residents.
Housing Achievements Since 2019
Since the start of the current administration in 2019, nearly 10,000 housing units have been completed. This includes both fully government-funded developments and those created through partnerships with private sector investors. Among these is a recently delivered 270-unit estate in Egan-Igando, marking the 21st residential estate commissioned across the state’s five administrative divisions.
Major Ongoing and Upcoming Housing Projects
The state government is actively working on multiple housing developments, each at various stages of completion. Notable projects include:
Egan-Igando Clusters II & III: 576 homes projected for completion by early 2026.
Sangotedo Phase II (Eti-Osa East): 528 units expected to be delivered by Q3 2025.
Epe Housing Scheme (Itamarun): 112 homes targeted for delivery in Q4 2025.
Ajara Housing Scheme (Badagry): 420 units scheduled for Q2 2025.
Ibeshe Phase II (Igbogbo-Baiyeku): 192 units expected by Q3 2025.
As of the first quarter of 2025, the Epe development had reached 82% completion, while other projects ranged between 50% and 86% in progress.
LSDPC's Expanding Contributions
The Lagos State Development and Property Corporation has also played a key role in the state’s housing expansion. Over the past six years, it has completed 12 developments, adding 710 homes to the housing stock. Currently, it is managing 25 projects that are expected to deliver an additional 2,415 housing units.
Looking Ahead: A 14,000+ Unit Goal
With 4,052 homes currently under construction and another 2,224 in the planning phase, Lagos is on track to achieve its target of 14,022 new housing units by early 2026. This large-scale effort reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing housing needs, supporting urban growth, and improving living conditions for a growing population.
