Federal Government Allocates N142 Billion for Six Modern Bus Terminals Nationwide

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has sanctioned a substantial investment of N142 billion for the development of six state-of-the-art bus terminals across Nigeria. This initiative aims to enhance the country's transportation infrastructure and improve commuter experiences.

The contract for the construction of these terminals has been awarded to Messrs Planet Project Limited, the same firm responsible for the Oshodi Transport Interchange in Lagos. The selected locations for the new terminals are:

  • Abeokuta (South-West)

  • Gombe (North-East)

  • Kano (North-West)

  • Lokoja (North-Central)

  • Onitsha (South-East)

  • Warri (South-South)

Transportation Minister Sa’idu Alkali announced the approval during a press briefing following the FEC meeting, which President Bola Tinubu chaired. He emphasised that this project represents the first direct federal investment by the Ministry of Transportation in road transport infrastructure beyond road construction. The chosen sites were selected based on their economic potential and strategic importance.

The development of these terminals is expected to significantly improve urban mobility, reduce congestion, and create employment opportunities across the nation. The project underscores the government's commitment to modernizing Nigeria's transportation sector and fostering economic growth through infrastructure development.
