FG and Lagos Launch Nationwide Land Titling and Documentation Reform
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has joined forces with the Lagos State Government to propel the National Land Titling, Registration, and Documentation Programme (NLTRDP), launching the initiative today in Lagos. The workshop, officially kicked off by Minister Ahmed Dangiwa and hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, brings together professionals from real estate, finance, mortgage institutions, and the built environment to work on streamlining land titling across the country. This builds on a similar event held in Abuja earlier in March. Dangiwa emphasized that the partnership with states and the World Bank is vital to unlock Nigeria’s dormant land wealth, enhance transparency, boost investment, and reform property ownership records nationwide. In a related move, the federal government has halted all land allocations and reclamation work along the Lagos Lagoon shoreline, appointing a committee to ensure proper documentation, eliminate abuse, and harmonize approvals in that sensitive area. Governor Sanwo-Olu is expected to highlight Lagos’ digital land registry integration with the national system, reinforcing efficiency and openness in property transactions.
