Edo State Tackles Land Disputes with New Documentation Initiative

The government of Edo State has kicked off a major property documentation exercise aimed at formalizing ownership records in the newly developed urban expansion area, previously known as Coral City.

The profiling process, which targets property owners across designated plots within the development zone, is part of a broader effort to resolve land ownership disputes and establish a streamlined process for issuing valid land titles.

The exercise is scheduled to run from Tuesday, June 3, to Friday, June 13, 2025. Property owners in both Lot-A and Lot-B are required to present their property survey documents or, alternatively, provide precise coordinates of their land holdings. For those without existing documentation, state-approved surveyors will be present on-site to assist in generating the necessary data.

This move comes after a high-level stakeholder meeting between the state government and community leaders from Oke-Oroma, Obagie, and Amagba—areas impacted by the New City Development. The meeting focused on conflict resolution and emphasized the importance of proper documentation in securing legal ownership.

Governor Monday Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and development. He encouraged all affected landowners to participate actively in the process, noting that this step is essential for the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy and for safeguarding property rights.

The initiative is expected to bring clarity to land ownership in the area, reduce disputes, and pave the way for more organized urban growth.
