Saraki Inaugurates Multi-Billion Naira Road Project in Yola

Former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, officially commissioned the 26 kilometre road network within the Federal Housing Estate in Bajabure, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, on Monday, 2 February 2026. The project, executed by the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, marks a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing urban renewal and infrastructural drive.

The newly inaugurated network includes reinforced concrete drains, culverts, and a 3.5 kilometre stormwater drainage system designed to mitigate perennial flooding within the estate and its surrounding communities.

Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Economic Growth

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Saraki lauded Governor Fintiri’s commitment to "people-oriented development," describing the transformation of Adamawa’s infrastructure as unprecedented. He noted that the quality of the road projects in the state reflects a leadership style anchored on integrity and results.

“On my way from the airport today, I felt like I was travelling from Dubai town to Dubai International Airport,” Saraki remarked, highlighting the visible improvement in the state’s capital and its environs.

Governor Fintiri, in his address, emphasized that the project was a fulfillment of the "Fresh Air" agenda flagged off in May 2024. He stated that the road network is more than just asphalt; it is a strategic investment to:

  • Reduce Travel Time: Enhancing mobility for residents of the Federal Housing Estate.

  • Boost Property Values: Improving the economic profile of the Girei local government area.

  • Enhance Safety: Providing well-structured carriageways and drainage to prevent road degradation and flooding.

Project Specifics and Execution

The contract, which was awarded to Messrs Triacta Nigeria Limited at an initial cost of approximately ₦16 billion, was completed ahead of schedule. The network comprises:

  • Main Approach Road: 3.5km long with a 10.3m wide carriageway.

  • Internal Service Roads: Totaling 14.8km with 8m wide carriageways.

  • Total Network Reach: Extended to 26km to include adjoining community links.

Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s stance against abandoned projects, asserting that every infrastructure contract awarded under his leadership would be delivered to the highest standard. He urged the residents of Bajabure to take ownership of the infrastructure and protect the drainage systems from being used as refuse dump sites.
