Osun Government Splits 55.6 km Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road Project Among Three Contractors
Osun Flags Multiple Contractors for Major Road Project
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has awarded the 55.6 kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road project to three different contractors as part of a strategy to accelerate delivery and adhere to timelines for one of the most significant transportation corridors in the state. The announcement followed an on-the-spot assessment of ongoing road works, signalling a renewed focus on key infrastructure development within the state.
Strategic Division of Major Road Contract
According to the Osun State Director of Highways, Engr. Moruf Ojebode, the 55.6 km road has been divided into three segments and awarded to Pecular Ultimate Concerns, Mzee Global Resources, and A’skorg Integrated Service Limited. These contractors are expected to be mobilised this month, initiating construction activities across the designated sections of the route.
The multi-contractor approach is designed to ensure parallel progression across the entire corridor, reducing the typical bottlenecks associated with single-contract delivery and improving prospects for on-time completion.
Infrastructure Drive and Broader Works
During the visit to Iwo, the Director of Highways also assessed the ongoing 3.6 km Odo-Ori-Ojaoba-Post Office road project, an internal segment that forms part of the broader road enhancement agenda within the town. Ojebode highlighted that drainage works have been completed and that walkways and median installations are in progress, marking measurable progress on the initial phase.
He further noted several internal roads already completed within Iwo, including Ansarudeen to Puti Road, Feesu Agbowo Road, Post Office to Oke-Ifa Road, and Army Junction to Jagun Ode Road, which complement the larger Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan project and enhance local connectivity.
This infrastructural push aligns with broader efforts by the present administration to improve road networks across Osun State, a key driver of economic activity and mobility for businesses and commuters.
Local Response and Significance
Transport union representatives in Iwo described the administrative drive as “unprecedented,” commending the state government for prioritising road infrastructure and linking major towns with improved corridors. Community leaders also highlighted the first dual carriageway in Iwo as an example of elevated standards in the state’s road delivery model.
The phased redevelopment strategy, involving both internal and inter-city roads, is expected to reduce travel times, enhance safety, and stimulate economic interactions between Osogbo, Iwo, and Ibadan one of the region’s busiest transport axes.
Outlook and Implementation
With contractor mobilisation imminent, the focus now shifts to execution and adherence to performance benchmarks. Successful completion of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road has the potential to significantly improve freight movement, boost regional commerce, and support broader socio-economic growth objectives in Osun State.
The decision to disperse the project among three firms reflects a tactical emphasis on efficiency and accountability in public works delivery. Continued oversight, effective coordination between agencies, and clear timelines will be critical to ensuring the infrastructure delivers its expected benefits to residents, businesses, and commuters across the state.
