Chevron to Admiralty Stretch Modernised as Lagos Upgrades Major Corridor

The Lagos State Government has successfully completed the rehabilitation of the Lagos-bound Chevron to Admiralty section of the Lekki-Ajah Road, marking a significant milestone in the phased upgrade of the 28-kilometre corridor. The nine kilometre stretch was delivered in 27 days well ahead of the originally projected 41-day timeline signalling improved infrastructure delivery and commitment to easing traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest commuter routes.

Strategic Infrastructure Upgrade on a Critical Urban Artery

The completed rehabilitation covers the Lagos-bound segment of the Lekki-Ajah Road from Chevron to Admiralty. This corridor forms part of a larger 28-kilometre project that extends from the Lekki-Ajah Bridge to the Admiralty Way intersection across both inbound and outbound carriageways. The phased execution plan aims to modernise the entire stretch while maintaining traffic movement throughout construction.

Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation confirmed that work on the Epe-bound carriageway will begin shortly as part of continuing efforts to upgrade the full corridor.

Ahead of Schedule: Delivery and Traffic Management Execution

The Lagos-bound segment was delivered in 27 days a full two weeks earlier than the 41-day forecast. According to Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, and the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the accelerated delivery stemmed from a comprehensive traffic management strategy that minimised commuter disruptions while maintaining effective work progress.

Traffic interventions including diversion planning, coordinated personnel deployment, and real-time monitoring were credited with limiting congestion throughout construction a key concern for daily commuters on this high-density axis.

Broader Corridor Rehabilitation and Urban Mobility Impact

This announcement follows the recent completion of the Chevron Chisco stretch on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, underscoring the state’s broader commitment to transport infrastructure enhancement across the Lekki corridor. Together, these upgrades contribute to smoother traffic flow, improved road safety, and reduced travel times for thousands of commuters who rely on these routes for daily movement.

The phased rehabilitation is particularly timely given ongoing urban growth in Lekki, Ajah, and neighbouring districts areas that have experienced rapid development and increasing vehicular demand over recent years.

Economic and Urban Planning Considerations

Transport arteries like the Lekki-Ajah Road are vital to Lagos’ economic dynamism, facilitating movement between residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Timely and quality infrastructure delivery supports business activities, reduces transportation costs, and strengthens investor confidence in urban real estate and commercial markets.

By completing the Chevron Admiralty stretch ahead of schedule, the Lagos State Government reinforces its operational capacity to deliver complex infrastructure projects efficiently. The planned continuation of works on the Epe-bound carriageway reflects an ongoing commitment to comprehensive corridor modernisation.

The early completion of the Chevron Admiralty rehabilitation on the Lekki-Ajah Road is a positive development for Lagos’ transport infrastructure landscape. It demonstrates disciplined project execution, effective traffic management, and strategic prioritisation of key urban corridors. As subsequent phases move forward, the broader 28-kilometre upgrade is set to improve mobility, safety, and economic connectivity across a critical metropolitan axis.
