Wike: 10km Access Road to Abuja’s Renewed Hope City to Reach Completion in May
Karsana-Renewed Hope City Access Road Set for May Delivery
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that the 10-kilometre access road linking the Karsana district to the Renewed Hope City housing project is scheduled for completion in May 2026. Speaking during an inspection of the project site on Tuesday, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, noting that the infrastructure is a critical component of the Federal Government’s strategy to expand Abuja’s housing capacity and improve urban connectivity.
Critical Infrastructure for Mass Housing
The road project serves as the primary artery for the Renewed Hope City, a landmark residential development designed to provide approximately 50,000 housing units under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. According to the FCT Minister, the timely delivery of this road is essential to ensure that the site remains accessible for developers and future residents.
The project is being executed by the FCT Administration (FCTA) to provide the necessary enabling environment for private sector-led housing delivery. By prioritizing this corridor, the administration aims to de-risk the investment for developers and accelerate the construction of the residential units.
Technical Progress and Project Timeline
During the site visit, Minister Wike noted that the contractors have demonstrated significant commitment to the timeline. The 10km stretch is part of a broader infrastructure network intended to link the Karsana North district with other satellite areas, thereby reducing the pressure on the city centre's existing road networks.
"The contractor has assured us that by May, this road will be ready," Wike stated. He emphasized that the FCTA is maintaining a strict oversight mechanism to ensure that the quality of work meets international engineering standards. The Minister highlighted that the project is being funded through the FCT’s capital budget, underscoring the government's focus on completing ongoing projects rather than initiating new ones without secured funding.
Economic and Urban Impact
The completion of the Karsana access road is expected to trigger a surge in real estate activity within the Northwest corridor of the FCT. Economic analysts suggest that the improved accessibility will likely lead to an appreciation in land value and attract further commercial investments to the Karsana district.
Furthermore, the Renewed Hope City project represents a cornerstone of the current administration’s urban renewal agenda. By integrating high-capacity housing with robust transport infrastructure, the FCTA seeks to address the acute housing deficit in the nation’s capital while fostering decentralised urban growth.
The May 2026 deadline for the 10km Renewed Hope City access road marks a significant milestone in the FCT's infrastructure development roadmap. As the FCTA continues to align its spending with the "Renewed Hope" agenda, the focus remains on delivering integrated projects that bridge the gap between infrastructure and housing supply. Stakeholders in the housing sector remain optimistic that the completion of this road will provide the necessary impetus for the rapid delivery of the 50,000-unit residential scheme.
