Wike Reclaims Land from University of Abuja, Commissions New Road in Giri

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken back 7,000 hectares of land previously held by the University of Abuja in the Giri area of Abuja. According to Wike, the university had claimed a total of 11,800 hectares without proper documentation. After a review, 4,000 hectares were officially allocated to the university, while the remaining land was reclaimed by the FCT Administration for future development.

This move was part of a broader effort to open up the Giri District and bring more infrastructure to underserved areas. Wike made this announcement during the commissioning of a newly constructed access road in Giri, which also connects to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy.

He explained that the new road will not only support local residents and commuters but also make it easier for development to begin at the EFCC Academy. The academy is expected to include training centers and research facilities focused on tackling cybercrime and improving law enforcement skills.

The road project was completed in record time, and Wike assured residents that additional roads and infrastructure will soon follow. He directed relevant agencies to begin work on more internal roads, electricity, water, and other amenities in the area—promising significant progress within the next year.

Wike also emphasized the importance of proper land use and warned that the FCT will no longer tolerate unauthorized occupation of land. He encouraged institutions and developers to ensure that all land claims are backed by valid approvals and documentation.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, represented at the event, commended the FCT Administration for its push to improve infrastructure and bring development to areas that had long been neglected. He described the new projects as part of a larger vision to include all communities in the growth and development of the nation’s capital.
