Lagos State Government Warns of Housing Allocation Revocation Over Estate Rule Violations
The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing compliance within state-owned housing estates, warning that residents who breach estate regulations risk losing their home allocations.
During a stakeholders’ forum held at the Sir Michael Otedola Housing Estate in Epe, the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, stated that strict adherence to estate rules, including payment of maintenance and insurance fees, and compliance with approved design standards, is vital to maintaining the integrity and livability of the estates.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, Akinderu-Fatai, cautioned that the government would revoke allocations of residents who undertake unauthorised structural alterations or fail to take possession of their units within a reasonable period. He emphasised that the state’s housing schemes are designed to provide genuine accommodation for residents, not speculative investment opportunities.
Collaboration with Security Agencies
Toriola revealed that the Ministry of Housing is partnering with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other security agencies to monitor activities across government-owned estates. Any residents found to be engaged in criminal activities, including drug use or trafficking, will face immediate revocation of their housing allocations.
The Ministry also urged residents to pay their facility management and insurance fees promptly to sustain essential services such as security, waste management, and power supply. Toriola added that discussions are underway with private partners to provide alternative power solutions aimed at reducing maintenance costs and improving infrastructure reliability within the estates.
