Lagos State Government to Begin Night Repairs on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road

The Lagos State Government will commence night-time repair works on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road from Monday, 15 September to Sunday, 21 September 2025. The maintenance exercise, which spans the section from Bonny Camp junction, is scheduled to run between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily to limit disruption to daytime traffic.

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair works are designed to ease pressure on the corridor without creating gridlock during peak hours. He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management personnel who will be deployed along the route throughout the repair period.

The state government emphasized that conducting the works overnight is a deliberate strategy to ensure smoother mobility during the day while sustaining long-term efficiency on the busy arterial road.

Broader Context: Ongoing Bridge Works

The Ozumba Mbadiwe repairs add to the state’s current infrastructure programme, including the 110-day emergency maintenance of the Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge. That project, which began on 6 May 2025, is being implemented in eight phases and is expected to conclude on 23 September 2025.

The first four phases addressed the inbound carriageway toward the Third Mainland Bridge, while the final four phases are focused on the outbound lanes. These works have necessitated partial lane closures, creating delays that require motorists to explore alternative routes.

The Lagos State Government has advised commuters to consider Eko Bridge, Funsho Williams Avenue, Ikorodu Road, Ojota Slip Road, and the Anthony–Oshodi links as viable diversions. For those travelling between Ikeja and central Lagos, connections through Maryland to Funsho Williams Avenue and Eko Bridge remain recommended alternatives.

Key Takeaway

The night-time works on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road reflect Lagos State’s broader push to modernize critical transport infrastructure while minimizing disruption to daily commuters. By combining targeted night interventions with ongoing large-scale bridge rehabilitation, the government aims to improve connectivity and reduce travel bottlenecks across the city’s busiest corridors.
