FCT Police Warns Residents Against False Alarms, Supports Legal Demolitions

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cautioned Abuja residents against raising unverified security alarms, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Territory.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, issued the warning following an expanded Security Council meeting chaired by FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike at his Life Camp residence. The CP clarified that recent reports of attacks at Veritas University, Bwari, and Government Secondary School, Tungan Maje, were unfounded.

“Investigations conducted immediately at the reported sites confirmed no threats were present. Rapid response teams discovered these alarms were based on misunderstandings,” Dantawaye explained, noting the efficiency of the security apparatus in addressing false reports within minutes.

Operation Sweep and Sector-Based Security Deployment

The Commissioner highlighted that the newly relaunched Operation Sweep has intensified security measures across the FCT. The Territory has been divided into four operational sectors covering Bwari, Gwagwalada, the city centre, and surrounding areas including Karu, Mararaba, Karshi, and Orozo.

Dantawaye praised the FCT Minister for providing logistics and resources to strengthen patrols and rapid-response capacity. He assured the public that security arrangements now extend to worship centres, with dedicated deployments at major mosques on Fridays and churches on Sundays.

Targeting Criminal Hideouts and Illegal Activities

The CP also confirmed that police units have identified several criminal hideouts, particularly informal structures used for illicit activities, which will be cleared with full law enforcement support. Residents were further advised to exercise caution regarding dispatch riders, following the arrest of two individuals transporting illegal drugs, including Indian hemp.

Public Reassurance and Confidence in Security Measures

Dantawaye encouraged residents to conduct their daily activities with confidence, stressing that the security agencies are fully operational and vigilant. He emphasised that collaboration between citizens and law enforcement is essential to maintaining a safe environment in the FCT.
