Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has called on estate developers to strictly adhere to regulatory standards and maintain professionalism in all aspects of development, including title documentation, construction quality and estate management. The appeal came during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Summit Estate Global housing project in Apo Dutse, Abuja on 14 February 2026.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the vice-president, his Senior Special Assistant on Legal and Compliance, Bashir Maidugu, positioned structured urban development as foundational not only to aesthetic city planning but also to national stability and economic progress.

Emphasis on Standards, Compliance and Quality

At the event, Shettima reiterated that real estate development requires more than financial capital; it must be built on discipline, patience, regulatory compliance and confidence in the future. Officials described the Summit Estate Global project jointly organised by Summit Estate Global Ltd. and Homadil Realty Ltd. as a model of visionary, structured housing delivery that aligns with modern community living in the Federal Capital Territory.

The vice-presidential message underscored the importance of title documentation integrity, robust construction standards and effective estate management. According to the statement, adherence to these principles not only protects investors and buyers, but also fosters orderly urban growth and reduces pressure on overburdened districts.

“Abuja continues to evolve as a dynamic capital city not merely the seat of government, but a centre of commerce, diplomacy, and innovation,” Shettima was quoted to have emphasised.

Housing and National Economic Priorities

The vice-president also framed housing development as a critical component of national stability. He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for responsible private sector participation in infrastructure and housing delivery. Officials noted that ongoing reforms aim to strengthen fiscal stability, attract investment, and unlock productive sectors within the economy.

In support of this vision, Rebecca Godwin-Isaac, Chief Executive Officer of Homadil Realty Ltd., described the Summit Estate Global initiative as reflective of innovation and commitment to premium housing development in the FCT. She thanked the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and other stakeholders for their contributions to advancing quality real estate infrastructure.

Executives from partner construction firms, including J.I Construct Ltd., also pledged to uphold regulatory and quality standards throughout the development process.

Implications for Real Estate Sector and Investors

Shettima’s message resonates amid broader industry concerns about professional conduct, regulatory compliance and market integrity in Nigeria’s real estate sector. Consistent enforcement of standards is considered key to mitigating risks like title disputes, structural failures and investor losses. Analysts and industry associations often urge such compliance to build investor confidence and support sustainable housing supply.

For policymakers, the vice-presidential appeal aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen land governance frameworks, improve housing affordability and encourage environmentally sustainable development across urban centres

At the Summit Estate Global groundbreaking, Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s directive to estate developers emphasised professionalism, compliance and quality as indispensable to advancing Nigeria’s housing and urban development agenda. By underscoring best practices in documentation, construction and service delivery, the federal government aims to support a real estate industry capable of delivering enduring value for investors, homeowners and communities alike.
