Vice President Kashim Shettima has officially inaugurated 133 completed housing units and ancillary infrastructure under the Tudun Biri Community Resettlement Scheme in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The project represents a cornerstone of the Federal Government's remedial intervention following the December 2023 military drone mishap that caused significant loss of life and property in the community.

A Fulfilled Commitment to Reconstruction

The resettlement initiative, executed under the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC), was described by the Vice President as a fulfilled pledge by the President Bola Tinubu administration to restore the dignity and stability of the affected residents. The scheme transcends basic residential provision, incorporating educational facilities and modern amenities designed to facilitate a comprehensive recovery for the traumatised community.

During the inauguration ceremony on Friday, Shettima noted that the project was rooted in the principle that governance must prioritise human empathy and social cohesion. He recalled his initial visit to the site in late 2023, where he assured the community of a state-led rebuilding effort that would ensure no citizen is left behind following national misfortunes.

Institutional Framework: The RSPIC Initiative

The Tudun Biri project is part of a broader humanitarian response framework. The Vice President disclosed that the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC) is currently being implemented across several frontline states, including Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and Benue. The initiative is designed to provide long-term resettlement solutions for populations displaced by conflict or humanitarian emergencies.

"We are not just commissioning buildings; we are affirming our commitment to responsibility, to empathy, and to the protection of human dignity," Shettima stated. He further emphasized that the initiative reflects a conscious shift in government policy toward sustainable recovery and the restoration of livelihoods.

Collaborative Governance and Community Impact

The success of the scheme was attributed to the constructive partnership between the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government. Governor Uba Sani expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that the project places the welfare of citizens at the centre of the governance agenda.

Representatives of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Aisha Haruna and Mr. Solomon John, expressed that the new housing units provide a sense of closure and hope after months of uncertainty. However, they appealed for sustained support from the authorities to aid the full reintegration of the residents into stable economic life.

The commissioning of the 133 units in Tudun Biri marks a significant milestone in the administration’s housing and humanitarian agenda. It serves as a practical demonstration of the state's capacity to respond to internal displacement through structured resettlement rather than temporary relief. As the Federal Government continues the rollout of the RSPIC across other conflict-affected regions, the Tudun Biri model will likely serve as a blueprint for post-disaster community reconstruction in Nigeria.
