As of February 2026, the state operates with its 11 traditional Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 13 newly established Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) designed to enhance security and infrastructure delivery.

Under the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the 2026 "Budget of Consolidation" (totaling ₦617.95 Billion) has allocated record funding to these local units to position Gombe as a regional agro-livestock hub.

The 13 New LCDAs (2026 Update)

In August 2025, Governor Yahaya signed the law creating 13 LCDAs to bring governance closer to rural communities. These units focus on the "Renewed Hope" housing projects and regional security.
