Local Government in Gombe State: The 2026 Administrative Guide

Gombe map

Gombe State, the "Jewel in the Savannah," is currently witnessing a "grassroots revolution." While the 1999 Constitution recognizes 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs), the state government officially operationalized 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in late 2025 to bring governance closer to the rural population.

In 2026, the administration's focus is on the "Special Capital Development Zone" and the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ), ensuring that every LGA headquarters is linked by motorable asphalt roads.

2026 Strategic Growth Centers

  • Gombe City (Gombe LGA): Undergoing massive urban renewal; home to the new 250-unit Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

  • Kumo (Akko LGA): Firmly established as a regional livestock and grain trading hub with the 2026 modernization of its central market.

  • Bajoga (Funakaye LGA): The state's industrial engine, benefiting from proximity to AshakaCem and the new ultra-modern commercial complex commissioned in February 2026.

  • Nafada LGA: The newly commissioned Nafada Four-Span Bridge has permanently ended the rainy-season isolation of this agricultural community.
